Policy Updated: 2022

Policy Reviewed: 2024

Purpose:

This policy establishes a framework for Redeemer’s University, under the Adeboye Centre for Peace and Good Governance (ACPGG), to identify and engage external stakeholders in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which promotes peace, justice, and strong institutions. It aims to foster collaboration between the university and external organizations, including government bodies, civil society, international organizations, and local communities, to enhance institutional contributions toward building peaceful, inclusive, and just societies.

Scope:

This policy applies to all academic units, departments, research centers, and administrative units within Redeemer’s University. It focuses on activities that align with the goals of SDG 16 through research, education, public service, and institutional partnerships that foster strong governance, justice, and peacebuilding.

Policy Statement:

Redeemer’s University, through the ACPGG, is committed to playing a pivotal role in the promotion of peace, justice, and strong institutions by:

  1. Encouraging and facilitating collaborations with external stakeholders that share the university’s vision for sustainable peace and governance.
  2. Supporting research and educational initiatives aimed at promoting conflict resolution, rule of law, and transparent governance.
  3. Promoting outreach programs and public engagements that raise awareness of peace and justice issues at local, national, and international levels.

The university recognizes that partnerships with external stakeholders are critical for advancing SDG 16 and is committed to identifying, engaging, and sustaining relationships that will help achieve these objectives.

Achieving SDG 16: Contributions of the Adeboye Centre for Peace and Good Governance (ACPGG)

The ACPGG has made notable achievements toward advancing the cause of peace and governance, serving as a strategic platform for engaging both internal and external stakeholders:

  1. Establishment of a Physical Office: For the first time since its inception, the ACPGG has acquired a physical office located in the SEAP Building, which serves as the hub for all activities related to peace, conflict resolution, and governance.
  2. Curriculum Development: The center has developed and gained approval for curricula for Postgraduate Diploma, MSc., and PhD programs in Peace, Conflict Studies, and Governance. These programs have been approved by the University Senate and are scheduled for verification by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Student enrollment for these programs is expected to commence during the 2024/2025 academic session.
  3. Distinguished Colloquium Series: The ACPGG has successfully hosted two sessions of the Distinguished Colloquium Series, bringing together participants from within and outside the university community. These events have provided a platform for intellectual engagement and dialogue on key issues surrounding peace and good governance. The colloquiums have been widely recognized, with publications featured in various news media outlets.
  4. Governance Structure: A governing board for the ACPGG has been constituted by the Vice-Chancellor and approved by the Visitor to the University. This board will oversee the center’s strategic direction, and its influence is expected to become evident in the coming months as it steers the center’s activities toward greater societal impact.
  5. Community Engagement: In addition to its academic endeavors, the ACPGG has been actively involved in community engagement. The two sessions of the Distinguished Colloquium Series provided a forum for public discourse on peace and governance, and these events have fostered deeper ties with external communities, contributing to the university’s mission to advance peace and justice.

Procedures for External Stakeholder Engagement

Amendments will be made as necessary to reflect changes in stakeholder needs and the university’s strategic objectives.
